Never Ever Give Up

I saw this on Facebook and it touched me deeply so I wanted to share it with you. The Father loves you and is with you when things get hard. Click on the link to view the video of an Olympian who struggled to the finish line with his dad after tearing a hamstring.

$133 000

Wow! The offering last night at the banquet brought in $133 000. Way to go PACers! This is very exciting, thanks for giving. Once I know the final number of grocery bags I’ll let you know, but there were many more brought in this fall compared to other years.

Vulnerability?…Hmmm!

By Alison Lehman

If you were at PAC last night for the banquet, you would have heard Nathan encourage us to love our church. What happened in your hearts and minds as he talked about that? He understands that we love “Jesus” and we love the “church,” as an idea possibly, but he wants us to love each other at Portage Alliance Church. He wants us to get real and vulnerable. Eeeeek!!!

What happens when we get real and vulnerable and let our guards down? Inevitably we get hurt. Why? Because we are interacting with other broken, real people. We all have bad days, we all have pain in our lives to some extent and sometimes we just don’t deal with it well.  I have been here 10 years now and even though I have been hurt, deeply at times, I can say that I love PAC. When I say that I love PAC, I’m not saying that in a romanticized fashion where all is a bed of roses all the time. I’ve been to tough places with others more than once and honestly have had the urge to leave where nobody knows my name, but I never have. Why? Because that’s exactly what Satan wants me to do.  The father of lies doesn’t want you or me in community, he wants to separate us. He knows that when we stand together and hold each other up, we are stronger and can do amazing things.

I love PAC because God calls me to, even when it’s hard.  But you know what? As I forgive others when they hurt me, I count on the fact that they will forgive me, also.  (Because regrettably, I have hurt others and I’ll probably do so in the future, although not intentionally.) I was reading Jonah tonight and what I take away from this book of the Bible is that it’s so easy for us to call judgement down on others for doing wrong. It’s  easy to see the faults of others – but what we don’t see, so easily, is that we do the very same things.

When we get into community and get real, it gets messy. And messy is scary because you leave yourself open to the possibility of hurt. I’ve been there and it’s not a whole lot of fun. But through the hurt, I learned about grace and forgiveness. I learned how to let it flow both ways. By being vulnerable and real, instead of avoiding the mess as I’ve done in the past, I dove right into it head first and allowed the people of PAC and God to break me and remold me.

If we can be strong for each other and help each other through our “stuff,” lives will be healed and the Portage community will wonder what on earth we have that they don’t. And they’ll want a piece of it.
