Best Church in the World

By Karen Gross

My church family is the best in the world.

For the last year or so, my Parkinson’s symptoms have made it impossible to get out of the house much, especially in the morning and evening. On most days I have three or four hours late morning and early afternoon when I am almost pain free, but my mobility is unpredictable.

I have hated not being able to get to church. I watch the sermons on the web site, but it isn’t the same as being there. I have also been missing out on our women’s study group on Tuesday mornings. We have wonderful women in our church, and I have sorely missed the friendships and the study groups that I enjoyed every Tuesday morning for almost twenty years. The group has changed names and faces over the years, right now we are calling it Daybreak.

This morning five of my friends from Daybreak came to my house for a potluck lunch. They brought enough food to feed way more than six women, and they left all of the leftovers in my fridge. They brought flowers, a card, and they arranged for my house to be cleaned top to bottom for Christmas.

The best gift that they brought though was their presence. These amazing women of God show me time and time again that the church is not the building on the corner of Saskatchewan Avenue and 23rd. The church is the people who gather there. And the people who gather at PAC make up the best church in the world.
