Carnival Success

The Westpark Carnival was a great reminder for me of what kind of a school we have.  There was such a positive atmosphere as everybody worked together to make it a success.  Our students, staff, parents, some church staff and other volunteers all chipped in to help with the worthy cause.  I won’t soon forget the image of a submerged and wide-eyed Peter Ralph staring at his “dunker” from behind the glass of the tank.   The proceeds from the carnival go to our school Impact program, which helps Westpark help others.  There was a good powerpoint playing on the big screen on stage which highlighted some of the Impact activities that we have been involved with as a school so far this year.  Thanks to Mr. Stoesz and his students for creating that powerpoint.

I would like to mention the efforts of Mrs. Zapotochny and Mrs. McCutcheon especially, who worked tirelessly (well, they worked so hard that they did get tired sometimes) to ensure that all of the details were taken care of.  Mrs. Gayle Loewen did a lot of behind the scenes work to ensure that things ran smoothly as well.  It was great to see so many parents helping out with the carnival:  working in the kitchen, helping with the silent auction, and cleaning up afterward.  A special thanks goes out to Sylvia Roy and Kathy Letkeman for organizing the canteen.  The operation of the canteen is a finely oiled machine thanks to the efforts of those two women and the parents who helped with it.  Thank you to all of the students in the high school who helped by running the booths and making trips to various businesses in town asking for silent auction items.  It was nice to see some of our Grade 8 students helping out at the carnival too.  Thank you to everyone who came to enjoy the food and the fun, but more importantly, to support the Impact activities that make a difference in the lives of those in our community and beyond.

I have never been a part of a school where parents are as willing to help out as they are at Westpark.  I have also not been a part of a school where helping others is as high of a priority as it is at Westpark either.  Our Impact program is so important in showing what we stand for as a school:  to honour Christ by developing our gifts and abilities and then using them to care for others.   Thank you for your involvement in our school, and for helping to make it a place that we can be proud of.
